Up
Indian Legends Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar on stage together for the very first time.
The evening of Wednesday 6th December saw the stunningly talented actress Shabana Azmi join her husband, the award-winning poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar in a one-off exclusive performance of the unique play ‘Kaifi Aur Main’, at the New London Theatre, Drury Lane.
The show, presented by new Indian restaurant Sitaaray and Barclays Wealth is a celebration of the life and works of legendary Urdu poet and film lyricist Kaifi Azmi, as seen through the eyes of his wife, the noted theatre and film actress, Shaukat Azmi.
The play, which is adapted from a book called ‘Yaad Ki Rehguzar’ written by Shabana's mother Shaukat Azmi, as well as interviews and writings of Kaifi Azmi, was brought to life by Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar in this unique and emotive play that pays tribute to the illustrious Kaifi Azmi, for his poetry, his work, his life and most of all his unending courage.
Written by Javed Akhtar and directed by popular Bollywood and Theatre director Ramesh Talwar, Javed walked the audience through Kaifi and Shaukat’s life story in a manner that only he is capable of doing. The combination of Shabana Azmi’s unequivocal acting ability and stage presence combined with Javed Akhtar’s literary skills, created a story so touching, filled with much emotion that the audience was left speechless.
